Fewd Bite: Hiland Sour Cream Chive Dip

Hiland is a dairy company that is based in our hometown of Wichita, KS.  Hiland’s products are available all across the midwest, so you readers on the coasts may leave now (just kidding, stick around anyway!).  While once being known as a milk and dairy products company, Hiland has expanded to more varied products.  Dips are a Fewd Snob favorite, and a perfect Fewd Bite…

Denny’s Thoughts:  Herman introduced me to Hiland Sour Cream Chive Dip.  The interesting thing is, I have a love/hate relationship with sour cream.  Sometimes I like it, and sometimes I don’t.  I certainly wouldn’t have thought that I would like a sour cream dip.  The first time he told me about it, I told him there is no way I was going to eat it.  Finally, he got me to try it.  I have been hooked since.  I am telling you, this will appeal even if you are skeptical of sour cream.  The flavor is NOT a strong sour cream flavor.  It is a subtle hint of sour cream.  The chive really takes over.  That said, it is not an overpowering herb flavor.  The two mix together to create a balance.  The texture is smooth and creamy.  This is the first sensation when tasting it.  The flavor is a creamy hint of sour cream.  The herb flavor hits right after.  I can sit and eat the entire container in one sitting.  As for chips to go with the dip, there is a specific one that both of us agree on.  Once again, Herman introduced me to the chip to go along with this dip.  But I will leave explaining that part to him…

Herman’s Thoughts:  Like Denny said, I introduced him to this stuff.  I have been eating it since I was a kid.  Also like Denny, I am not a big fan of sour cream.  In fact, it is one of the few foods that I really do not like.  I don’t put it on tacos, or nachos, or baked potatoes.  Can’t stand it.  It tastes like nothing.  Give me guacamole any day.  That said, I really DO like this dip.  The oniony flavor from the chives is spot on.  The perfect pairing is sour cream chive dip and potato chips.  While most chips will do, I really think the best one for the job is Art’s and Mary’s Original Tater Chips.  For more on these, check out our review of the Herb Garlic Parmesan Chips flavor. The crunch can’t be beat.  I also can’t stand it when a chip breaks when you dip it.  These are thick and can stand the test.  Last but not least, yes I am actually guilty of putting this stuff on a baked potato!
